Frequently Asked Questions
Does CrowdHop need an internet connection?
No. CrowdHop has no internet permission and never contacts a server. All messaging happens locally over Bluetooth Low Energy.
Does CrowdHop need a SIM card or phone number?
No. There is no sign-up. An anonymous ID is generated on your device the first time you launch the app.
Are my messages encrypted?
Yes. Messages between paired contacts are end-to-end encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Relay devices forward packets without being able to read their contents.
How far can a message travel?
Each Bluetooth hop reaches tens of meters. In a crowd, messages extend much further by being relayed through other phones running CrowdHop.
Does CrowdHop work on iPhone?
Not yet. CrowdHop is currently Android-only and available on Google Play.
Is CrowdHop free?
Yes. CrowdHop is free, has no paid tier, and contains no advertising or third-party SDKs.
